Last year I started exploring free hand embroidery. I right away fell in love with the possibility of adding texture with different stitches, the colour combinations and rich colours possible. I experimented with different stitches, and was especially drawn to needle weaving, creating intricate miniature textures on a rug or a pillow.
I also really enjoyed taking some of my existing fabric designs and seeing how they look in an interior setting, as a rug, fabric or wallpaper. The four interior scenes I stitched all use rich colours and textures. Making these felt a bit like indulging in decorating a room with no holds barred.
All four of these scenes are now available as embroidery kits that come complete with all the thread, a sturdy wooden hoop, pre-printed cotton fabric and a needle. And of course the booklet explaining all the stitches and walking you through the process of re-creating all these beautiful stitches, because somehow, almost as much as creating a new embroidery piece, I love teaching you how to make one too, and love the challenge of illustrating the process and breaking it down into something doable.
